To preface this, Stern was on the Jim Rome Show today and apparently took great offense to a question Rome asked him about the possibility of the draft being fixed.
Even though Rome mentioned before that the question is a "conspiracy theory" driven by fans, Stern then decided to ask Rome if he had stopped beating his wife as a response to that...

Obviously, I don't think the draft lottery is rigged, but if the commissioner gets that defensive...

I've always thought Commissioner Stern to be a very bright man and has set many a folk straight - Colin Cowherd, for example.
But he was all jackass on this one.

I think David Stern had every right to answer the way he did. Rome, as usual, tried to make his guest uncomfortable by asking a ridiculous, offensive and tasteless question.

Jim Rome is the fart joke of sports journalism and was treated as such.

I think what Stern said was fan-*******-tastic. You ask a stupid question, you deserve to get one right back at ya. And there is no person more deserving of a loaded question than Jim Rome.

How can anyone fault Stern for his reaction? I thought he was remarkably measured and controlled given the circumstance.

Rome is a ******* tool. He wants to make himself a hero by "asking Stern the tough questions" or whatever. He spins it and qualifies it before he asks, "I don't necessarily believe it myself, but..." and then he goes on to say, "Your league is rigged."

Stern was right. It's a ******, hey-everyone-look-at-me move... or as Stern called it, "cheap thrills."

I only heard it because the 1300 afternoon show kept replaying it. I gave up trying to "get" Rome's sports-for-meatheads schtick a long time ago.

PS Bleacherreport is the absolute definition of "cheap thrills" journalism. They post idiotic drivel just to generate page view. Haven't clicked on a bleacherreport link in years... including this one.

As David Cross once said about rewarding mediocrity, "I don't watch ****** TV. I don't listen to ****** music. I'm crazy like that."

Rome is all about Rome. Some good interviews where he throws lobs up to his heroes, and then **** like this. The listeners calling in to hack on each other wore thin with me a long time ago. It's unfortunate because he knows a lot about a wide variety of sports, but his radio show is rapidly becoming more entertainment for he mouth breathing masses, and less sports.

Rapidly becoming? It's been that way a long time. His pauses, his constant repeating himself, the childish bashing and baiting also done by his callers...yuck.

It's so weird that Dan Patrick and Rome are one after another as one is all class and the other, all ***.

Rome is a jerk, true. But Stern feel right into his lap.
I say Stern's response was jackass because he is usually smooth and has the gift of intellectually shutting people up.
I'm just surprised he was trapped up.

My general opinion of Rome is that his interviews are great, but I can't stand the rest of his show because he repeats himself about 5 times for each point he makes. But this interview sucked and it was his own fault. The whole "I just ask what my public wants to find out" shtick is easy to see through - he knew the public wouldn't find out anything about the draft lottery by him asking this question.

The funny thing about that is the writer for the bleacher report apparently being completely oblivious to the "have you stopped beating your wife" point. He seems to actually think Stern is accusing Rome of spousal abuse and completely misses the rhetorical point being made.

As someone has already mentioned, bleacher report articles are by definition useless, unless you read them to marvel that the person who wrote it was able to generate the mental capacity to move his fingers in such a way that they generated words from a keyboard.
