or the play it was based on. Sounds a little light for him. I mean, there were some good lines, but none of it sounds like Mamet. I just can't imagine him being part of a Chicago yuppie co-ed softball scene.

the play is quite short, but the narration about having sex with the freaky girl (BOOM!) is all Mamet.

Mamet movies are almost always a total whipping.

I usually feel like I should be getting paid to watch them instead of the other way around. And if it weren't for him, his wife would never work.

The play was titled "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and was pretty funny but its point was the opposite of what the movie did: Mamet was saying that building relationships based on picking up one nighters in bars, etc, was not a likely source of success: too much baggage. The movie of course has the pretty couple working out the wrinkles and presumably "living happily ever after."

I have always suspected the people who bought the film rights wanted to build on the opening scene that Belushi did in the film and then added on a robert redford ending so the women watching the film could walk away all fuzzy instead of feeling like used meat.

The play is not of the same quality as Glengarry Glen Ross or American Buffalo but is pretty decent.

It is, seriously, a one-act off-broadway play. Sort of a short commentary more than a thesis (like Glen). And as mentioned, it got Hollywoodized. It's much darker and bilious in its original form.
