Dave Grohl Taylor Hawkins

I know there's a lot of Foo worship around here, and in general, I'm in agreement -- I see them as sort of the CCR of the new millenium, great players, unique sound, solid songs -- but I'm watching an HD live show right now and it's just striking how much musical man-love there is between Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins. I can't figure out if Hawkins is the drummer Grohl wishes he was, or if he's merely the best available substitute, but these guys are defintely on the same wavelength.

I've seen them live several times, but they're really on a different plane as a band these days. Hawkins may not be as iconic a drummer as Grohl, but technically, he's better. Any Taylor Hawkins fans out there?

Fleeting PSA: they're playing the "Big Me" video right now. Damn, what a great song. Pat Smear! Footos!

I appear to be beerless . . .

Taylor is a great drummer and dave would probably be the first one to admit taylor's a better drummer. Plus he's from fort worth.

I was watching mtvhd as well

Dave Grohl = John Bonham
Taylor Hawkins = Stewart Copeland

that said. Foo Fighters are pretty much the only band that has mattered in a few years.

Yeah, I like em too.

If y'all get a chance find a copy of Foo Fighters doing, "Have a Cigar." Hawkins on vocals.

Foo Fighters are very good, in fact they're really good, but even they admit they can't measure to RUSH. Taylor Hawkins can't hold Neil Peart's jock strap when it comes to drums...

Hell my wife and I are obsessed with Rush.
(Our first born will be here possibly next week and his name is Alex Lee)

But, why bring them into this conversation...

Jimmy true... I wasn't really making a "timing," comparison..

I had a friend once describe the Foo Fighters as "big dumb rock".

You know, I have seen the band 3 times live and will take big dumb rock any day of the week.

The band loves what they do and it is evident in every live show.

Dave and Taylor have the perfect chemistry.

I was lucky enough to see them on that acoustic tour at Constitution Hall in DC. Incredible show, definitely one I'll never forget. Frank Black opened for them too.

When i saw the title of this post, i thought for sure it was going to be reaction to some announcement about them being gay lovers.

I am nearly serious here.

I heard Grohl interviewed on NPR by Terri Gross about 6 months ago. When asked if he missed playing drums for FF, he said "No. Why should I beat the crap out of my hands when the drummer we have is much better than me", or something to that effect. I heard much respect, but nothing untoward, if you take my drift. They have a good thing going.
