Daufuskie Island

Anyone ever stayed at the Daufuskie Island Resort and Spa near Hilton Head?

Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Coincidentally the San Antonio Express News had a travel article on touring the island in golf carts. Interesting story, I knew about the island and have read Pat Conroy's "The Water is Wide", but I had no clue there was now a resort on the island.

I went there on my honeymoon. We plan on going back later this year.

Without knowing exactly what you're wanting to know, here's my take. The ferry is both it's best quality and it's worst. It's difficult to get on and off the island but once you get there, it's great. Even at full capacity, it's not very crowded, unlike Hilton Head. I really liked the fact that there were no cars around and it was very quiet. (There's also a ferry stop in Savannah now as well as Hilton Head.)

There's also plenty of stuff to do. It has two solid golf courses. One of the courses has it's final three holes on the beach. It's quite pretty.

Another upside to the island is you have your own private beach.

There's a spa there if that's your thing. There's also an equestrian center and a pool/play center for kids.

Where are you staying when you get there? If you stay in one of the villas or cottages, they'll have a kitchen. There's a general store there with a decent amount of stuff and it's not too overpriced. You'll save a ton of money if you cook some of your own meals. You won't be able to get steaks and such at the store but you can find most staples.
