DART plan for TX-OU

I know its cool to be ultra skeptical these days, but I think its very refreshing that DART is attempting to learn from their mistakes.

As much as I would like to be the optimist and believe that DART will have a smooth time on gameday, I just don't see the numbers making sense. They say that they'll be able to transport roughly 7,000 riders/hour. At that rate, it could take 5 hours to get as many people down there as last year. With a 2 pm game, you would need to leave by 10am at the latest, or earlier if you wish to get some awesome fried stuff and wax cup beers.
This estimate doesn't include the return trip after the game. At 6pm, people are going to be worn out and half (toothless land thieves) will be in foul moods after getting whipped. This, combined with DART's capacity will cause a big bottleneck again, similar to last year.

My advice: fill a car, pay your $15 and park. It's worth it. Just make sure you're parked legally. If you arrive to the fair 2 hours before the game, you'll be able to find parking no more than 1/4 mile from an entrance, and you'll only have to wait a few minutes to exit your parking lot before you head home. I'll support DART heading to work some days and on other weekends, but I'm staying away from it this year.

We've always just split cabs. When you have 4 or 5 people in one, the shared cost isn't that bad, and we don't have to worry about designated drivers.

Won't be a problem getting there this year with the 2:30 kick since everyone won't be trying to get there by 11. Everyone leaving at once may be a different story.

We leave for the Fair early every year, so it's not a problem. We'll be on the Dart platform by 7:50-8:00AM this year...should be at Fair Park by 8:45-9:00AM...plenty of time to enjoy the Fair.

Leaving for us has never been a problem as we usually don't leave till the concert is about halfway done. 8:30-9:30PM...a full day at the Fair...what could be better

Here's my DART plan - Don't get on DART!

I'm going to need to see one successful effort before committing to mass transit to the game.

IMHO the problem with DART last year was the kickoff time. WAY TOO EARLY.

If you leave anytime between 8AM & noon you should be fine on DART.

We'll be getting at the Fair early...it's TX/ouscks weekend so why not enjoy all of it.

We arrive right about when parking opens, which is about 30 minutes before you can buy beer in there. We drain about 8 bottles of champagne worth of mimosas, and then go in to get our first of a few hundred beers.

I much prefer my method to mass transit.

The problem is (and I said this last year) DART is designed to be a light rail line for a city that doesn't rely heavily on public transportation. For a city like Dallas it is a fantastic system that will get you around certain parts of town without a car.

However, the system is set up for lower ridership than a game calls for.

It isn't the MTA. There are 6 subway lines right outside the stadium with trains stopping every 2 minutes after a game.

That's fine.. Dallas isn't NYC and doesn't need that kind of infrastructure. Just stop trying to sell it like the system can handle it.
