It's obvious why traffic fatalities are high during certain holidays but could someone please explain to me why 3 of the top days for fatalities are during the first week of August? I understand it's summer and lots of people are driving but why August?
I'm just guessing. Perhaps its because more people drive when they take a summer vacation (they may have more time to kill) and fly for other holidays.
All plausible explanations but people are driving for summer vacations all summer long so not sure why August would be any different than July or June. Kids going off to school is a more logical reason. Lots of people on the road and many of them are freshmen leaving home for the first time and not totally experienced drivers. Still seems strange that 3 days in the of August all rank so high.
Everytime I look at this subject heading for some reason I am reminded of the oldie but goodie aggy joke about the aggy who moved after he heard that 90% of all accidents happen within one mile of your home.
my neighbor is 96. i work from home, so i see just about everything that goes on in the neighborhood. this guy leaves the house all hours of the day. i call my wife when i know she's on her way home to warn her. some days, a couple of his friends come over and they all hop in 1 car to go wherever they go. it can't be "safe".
