Dana Patrick's 'car' hit a pit crew member

Your post makes no sense.

The part about accidents usually not being phrased as involving the car is correct. But when was the last time you saw an accident described as MAN DRIVER HITS TREE!!!?

When my friend in high school hit a tree, we all said-
"Last night, MIKE hit a ******* tree!"

or

"MIKE had an accident last night. He hit a tree with his jeep and Peter got hurt."

No one ever said "MIKE's jeep hit a tree.", because that would have made people think that perhaps MIKE was so drunk that he actually let someone drive his jeep and THAT person hit a tree.

When CHIP hit a tree, and everyone said "CHIP swerved to miss a mailbox on one side of the street and hit a tree on the other side of the street." No one thought that CHIP was about to punch a tree on one side of the street and instead was so stupid that he hit a tree on the other side of the street.

I just think that by including "car" to clarify that Dana didn't finally actually punch someone during one of her tantrums, it makes it sound like perhaps she wasn't driving. Like her car was being rolled off a truck and it hit someone else. Or someone was testing it and THAT person hit a pit crew member.

If they really felt the need to include "CAR" in the headline, they should have written-

Dana Patrick hits pit crew member with car

That uses 42 spaces (letters + empty spaces) rather than 40 spaces and conveys what actually happened, who was responsible + WHAT was used to hit the person.

That is all. I'm just concerned for journalism in this country. Well, make that the world in general.

Watched the clips on ESPN and apparently it wasn't her fault. That was mentioned by several different sources. It is obvious that they feel that it is VERY important to convey that people shouldn't think "woman driver hits man in pits". (Even though she did.)

But the guy was someplace that he shouldn't have been... and the only woman on the track behind a steering wheel managed to hit him.

PS- I'd be saying the same thing to my mother. And she's a HUGE feminist.

Drivers hit crew members more often than we'd like. In the last IRL race, a crew member got hit and had his leg run over. The guy then goes and punches the driver in the head. I've seen Formula 1 pilot hit their jack men numerous times. I've seen Cup driver hit crew members. An unfortunate part of motorsports.
