The Link

Edit:
Just wanted remind folks about the show at the Domain Saturday night. Starts at 6.

Is he the guy from Breedlove? Never really listened to them, but I know a lot of people who think he's really gifted.

Same Kat, and you know a lot of very smart people. It's beyond reason that he isn't bigger than what he is.

BTW, I'm checking out his album on Rhapsody:The Link

Breedlove is one of my favorite CDs ever. Great mix of classic blues-rock with blue-eyed soul and a dab of jazzyness and scat phrasings. Its a damn travesty they never made a bigger name than they did.

I think I need another drink of whiskey.

It is definitely too early for going home.

The fact that they are not a household name is proof positive the music industry is FUBAR'd

This thread is proof positive that all of Hornfans is merely a manifestation of my subconscious.

I saw a friend that I haven't seen in years on Saturday. We used to go to Breedlove shows religiously back when we both lived in Austin, and as it turns out, he still had their CD. I borrowed it from him, and in the last 24 hours, I have listened to it 4 times.

I googled some of the old band members (mainly Tyrone and Dan), and came across Dan's site, and have been contemplating buying his album.

Now this post pops up? Are you ******* kidding me?

For those that don't know, Breedlove was one of the top bands in Austin in the mid-to-late 90s. Seemingly on the brink of success, they disbanded in 98 or 99.

One of the guys in the band is Tyrone Vaughn, Jimmy Vaughn's son, and obviously Stevie's nephew. He is an incredible player, and Dan has a great, soulful voice.

Here is the Breedlove site.

Here is Dan's site..

Man, it just makes me miss Austin all the more...

He will be singing at The Domain for the holiday tree lighting event on Saturday evening, November 22nd. Former American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and the Christian Life Church choir are also performing there. It should be pretty good.

Lone Star, I was just about to mention his gig at the Domain. I couldn't care less about the other two playing, and I hope that Dan goes on first.

Probably my favorite solo artist out there. His new stuff is really good, but it's straight up soul. So if that's not your bag and you want something more mainstream, check out his other solo album- Of What Lies Beneath- produced by Lenny Kravitz. Awesome album IMO, but he's distanced from it since he and Lenny parted ways (when Lenny's label was dissolved). Apparently Lenny was extremely heavy-handed in the direction the album went, and Dan wasn't happy with the results. I love it though.

And Breedlove rules.

I got the Lenny & Dan CD but could never really warm up to it. There are a couple of good songs but overall the album's music is too similar, too popish. Its an allright CD but nothing compared to Reach Out. I need to check out his new one though, didn't realize he had another album out.

Glad you were able to borrow a CD, veggie, those things are pure gold. I tried to find one as a parting gift for an ex (think Devils Breath) and it was like trying to find the holy grail. Finally found a copy down on the Drag after digging through a million bins. I still have my original though, tucked away in safe place, where I won't lose it.

I do have a question for everybody/anybody...the more I listen to Reach Out the more curious I am about the Waste Away Boy song. Anyone know the story behind this song? It is just so profoundly sad I'm wondering if there is some event behind it.

regarding Waste Away Boy:

I'm not as current on my Breedlove info as I used to be, but I seem to remember something about Tyrone and his mom having some sort of problem, and that song was written about that situation.

That may be totally off base, but for some reason, that seems to be what I remember...

It looks like I may not be able to make it out to The Domain event. Can someone report back how it turned out? Thanks in advance.

After 10+ years, this remains one of my favorite albums. Every song is great. No filler.

I wish I could attend the Dan Dyer show.

Dan was great, but way too many people there and most were there to see Jordan. Crowd control was a disaster. All things considered, I'm going to check him out at Momo's.

I didn't hang around that **** hole for anything else. The choir couldn't be heard from my location, and near as I could tell, Jordan just got up on stage to say hi. She might have went on again after Dan, but I wouldn't know.
