Dallas to Copper Mountain

Spring Break is coming up and we are branching out to Copper Mountain from our usual trek to Angel Fire.

Anyone go this route often?

As a kid, I usually went through Raton Pass from West Texas, but the online services are telling me to go through Kansas, which is all Interstate.

raton pass is a hell of a lot more scenic of a drive...i go camping every summer just west of the Spanish Peaks in southern Colorado...climbed to the top of the taller of the 2 peaks last summer (13,600 something ft.)

the Kansas route is as boring as anything you'll find between Amarillo and Tucumcari, NM. Leave the metroplex an hour or two earlier than you planned, and enjoy the view is my advice.

Also, check the King Supers in Denver metro area before you buy lift tickets at Copper. In the past, they've had discounts on multiple-day passes. Granted, you'll still be getting dinged for the 'busy season', but every penny counts, right?

I also vote for the Amarillo - New Mexico route... Much more scenic.

If you want to save $ on lift tickets, even better than King Soopers... Stop at a book store (Borders) in Denver and pick up an "Entertainment Passbook." The book costs about $20 and has 2 or 4 coupons to get a lift ticket for $54. Same deal for Winter Park. We used them last weekend at WP. Window price/face value for a day is $92.

Thanks, I've booked a hotel in Pueblo, CO. It was either that or Amarillo, which I can't stand. Should be an easy second day drive into Copper.

I found the King Sooper books online. Can you use those coupons and get the Bee line pass?

Don't know about the B-Line pass... We skied Copper (with the coupons) over MLK Day weekend, 2008. We didn't ever wait in a lift line long enough to even wonder about the B-Line passes...
