Dallas to Austin - alternate route?

My wife & I are coming to Austin to see family over the July 4th weekend and I'm hoping to find an alternate route to I35. We could always take 67 to 281 to 183, but that would add probably 1.5 hours to the already 3.5 to get down 35.

The only other route that looks promising is 45 to Richland, then 14 to 6 into Hearne, and 190 into Hutto/Pflugerville. This way should add approx. 35 miles to our trip...but I'm curious if anyone has ever gone this route, is there a ton of construction on 45? Ever taken a different route than these 2?

I was actually going to ask this same question, but in the opposite direction. I have to head from Austin to Dallas leaving right after work at 5. I really don't want to sit in a parking lot all the way to Georgetown.

from austin to dallas I take mopac to Parmer, west on Parmer to 1431 na dhang a right on 1431.

This comes to 35 at Georgetown. It is usually smooth sailing from there or so.

From Dallas to Austin, I would take 67 to 35w and then chance it on 35-W south.

From Dallas to Austin, just make sure it is a one way trip!
