Dallas 'stay-cation'

Okay, the stay-cation term is queer, I agree. The pregnant wife and 2.5 daughter have a week to ourselves. We have some chores and standard 7/4 stuff on the radar, but need some day trip ideas.

Museums, movies, art, food, etc.

What ya got?

We're big fans of the mini-vacation. We take off into downtown Seattle and spend a night somewhere with an excursion to the Aquarium and Pike Place Market. Our girls (almost 4 and almost 2) dig it.

Right now, you can get a Studio Suite at the Stoneleigh for around $220 a night. Why not spend a night away from home and hit the Dallas Aquarium?

We're (family and I) are here for a week as well. We hit Burger Lake on Sunday, shopping Mon., Six Flags Tues, Dallas Zoo Wed., and we're off to the aquarium today.

Not much relaxation going on especially since our kids are 18 months and almost 11 years-old. Still...it's been fun.

To answer your question, I would try to avoid some of the above - at least for the weekend - due to the multitude of people that are off for the weekend. I cannot even begin to imagine what Burger Lake is looking like right now. By the way, if you didn't know...it's not a lake. It's a spring-fed pond with slides, diving boards, trapeze, lots of shade and picnic areas, etc... It's located NW of downtown FW.

Have you ever done the Sixth Floor Museum? If not, I highly recommend it to anybody with the least little interest in history.

The museum in the Old Red Courthouse is also fairly interesting. It's right caddy-corner to the Sixth Floor Museum and an easy tack-on to that.

I also think a picnic out at the Arboretum or just anywhere around White Rock Lake is a nice way to spend an afternoon.
