Dallas Morning News no longer will cover Rangers

If you've noticed the reduction in sports coverage in general from the DMN, there's more to come once baseball season starts. They will not have a beat writer anymore for the Rangers. That's a stunning development. We all knew the newspaper industry was dying, this is just another nail in the coffin.

Which sucks because Evan Grant is better than anyone the Startle-gram has on baseball. At least his blogs will still be up. Also sucks for Tracey Myers, who does a good job with the Stars for FWST.

I saw this and was stunned they won't have a beat writer dedicated to a major sports team in DFW... and yes, I have noticed not only the smaller Sports coverage, but the exodus of sports writers @ DMN and them not being replaced over the last few years. This proud and once fine newspaper is dying a slow death

Wow, I think back and my parents growing up received the SA Light. Every day, paper service. My dad would read a ton of that every morning before work (he got up at 5am every day). He then switched to the Express when the Light was bought by the Express.

My parents still get the daily paper and when I go visit them I end up reading it. I have 2 neighbors that are retired and both get the paper but only weekend paper. It seems that the newspaper print service is a dieing scenario. Sad but it's a reality I guess. I don't think any of my friends my age get the paper delivered.

I'm under the impression that a Rangers beat column will still appear every day in the DMN, it's just going to be the Star-Telegram's guy. I believe that the FWST dropped their Mavs beat guy, and will just be running the DMN beat column...

It wasn't too many years ago - well, maybe it was

, that Dallas had an afternoon newspaper besides the morning one...and I subscribed to both b/c I didn't want to miss ANYTHING. Then the DMN ramped up to be without any doubt the best Sports Section anywhere. To now see it's demise is disappointing. I've sent them letters regarding the decreasing of NBA coverage and get the expected response of reducing print and agate. It's too bad...as I sit here in front of my computer with the TV on with every possible news coverage I could possibly get.
