My wife and I have recently purchased our first home in Dallas, and needing some recommendations on home security companies. I've spoke with ADT, put a call in to a Smith rep, and am looking around for more suggestions.

ADT has tried to lure me in with free this and free that, but I don't like that they require a 36-month contract, especially at the price they listed. Our home is currently wired for a system, albeit an outdated one. All 3 of the entry monitors still chirp when opened, but the system is likely past it's expiration date when it comes to effectiveness.

Wife wants peace of mind at night to know if anyone is trying to enter the house while we're there, and I don't trust my self-defense methods (pistola and bat) since I'm a pretty groggy sleeper.

we were very happy with Smith Thompson. Very reasonable cost, one time wireless update charge ($50 or so), very responsive to the numerous false alarms we had (dog in house, unlocked back door with wind, etc.), good technology in the house.

I hope Caryhorn sees this. I have a feeling he has a very informed opinion about this for that area. Just a hunch. Maybe look him up and zap a pm. I would also take any info he has as something to seriously consider in your final decision. Just my .02

2 positive suggestions for Smith Thompson. I was turned off from ADT due to them requiring a 3 yr contract in order to receive a sub-$50/month quote.

I'll be contacting Smith this week. Thanks for the comments!

Keep 'em coming.

Are you suggesting you teach the dog how to fire the gun? Because if not you have to be home all the time or somehow make your dog immune to the toll EZ Off takes on the eyes. See, this is what burglars use on dogs to disable them if they want in your place and you are not there but the dog is. It melts the dogs eyes. It's quite unfair to the dog to be in that situation. Just get something that makes a lot of noise and pooch can go on thinking THEY are the protection. Gnarly and if I ever found somebody doing that to a dog, well...yeah.
