Dallas elementary schools

What are the considered the "best" elementary schools in Dallas?

Short story - we are a few years away from really worrying about this, but realized this weekend that we have no idea of where to send our boy when that time comes.

So Dallas Hornfans - what are the top 5/10 elementary schools in town? We are not wedded to either private or public - just want to send him to best school we can when time comes - so feel free to consider both in your responses.

Thanks.

your post is too general. there are several things to consider.

1. Is is DISD or Dallas area as poster mentioned. It's not the same thing at all.
2. Do you just care about Elementary? Because for the most part we did, and now we are having to worry about it again because while my daughter's DISD elementary school(s) were good (Lakewood and Travis), she is now going to middle school and the options are not so good at all, getting worse after middle school.
3. There is really no comparison between the BEST private schools and any public school, so you really are opening up a can of worms that is very likely to hijack this entire thread.

My daughter went to Lakewood until 4th grade. She has been at Travis (gifted magnet school downtown) for the last two years. We loved Lakewood. We don't think she suffered any by attending there. However, when you are talking about "the best" then Lakewood, Stonewall Jackson, and Robert Lee (the best DISD elementary schools in North/East Dallas)... still cannot be compared to schools like ESD, Hockaday, etc.

apples and oranges.

We looked at ESD for next year. 20K per year.

the problem with Lakewood is that the kids go to Long for middle school and Wilson for high school. while neither school is horrible, if you grew up in a nice little white suburb... you won't be cool with it

My daughter could continue going to magnet schools (travis goes to 8th grade), but if she does we are afraid she will miss out on the whole "high school experience" of sports and parties all the stuff you look back on.

At this point we are looking at Lake Highlands to settle. They are part of the Richardson school district, which gets high marks for public schools, and is still in Dallas. with the tear down of all the apartments on Skillman, that area is about to undergo a big demographic change and Lake Highlands high school will be back to where it was 15 years ago.

Doesn't any discussion of private elementary schools have to begin with picking the right day school/pre-K (right=feeder school)? Of course, the most important consideration is the curriculum and teaching approach that best suits your child.

Lakehill is very good I understand. If you are in Lakewood, most of the other prominent (and larger) private schools would be a very rough commute.

How many kids would you two like to have? Most families we know of bow out of private schools after two kids because of the expense (annual full-day Kindergarten tuition is in the high-"teens" or more per child at many - ESD, Lamplighter, St. Alcuin, Parish Day, etc.): Example Using Lamplighter

PM a guy named Woland. He used to teach at one of the Richardson schools. About 3 yrs ago, we were considering a move to Dallas and had settled on some locations in Richardson. He really helped us narrow down the areas, based on the schools.

Celina. Case closed. Best there is, best there was, and best there ever will be.

The education is so-so. However, how about some state rings?
