Can anybody recommend a good rear tire meter for a bike set up on a trainer? If you have one that works well for you, let me know and thanks. I am looking at or under 50 bucks and it won't be used outside. I have a front one for that. The trainer is a rear wheel fluid type.
Check out the Cateye Strada Cadence. Under $50 and it comes with 2 rear wheel sensors for speed and cadence. It's a wired kit, you didn't state if you wanted wired or wireless. Cateye Strada Cadence
The problem with most wireless computers is they require the sensor to be on the front fork within a certain distance of the computer making it not suitable for rear tire mount. Cateye does make a wireless for the rear tire, the rear mount is a single unit that measures speed and cadence, but the price is not within the range you wanted to spend. I have heard that rear wireless ones can be bitchy at times so I think a wired one will work just fine since it would be taken off when the bike hits the pavement. I have one setup for daily rides to work and around town and the other for the trainer and in the event of a last minute problem.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I always like to hear from people a little more known to me than random internet guy from across the country on a product or bike wholesaler site.
MMD, further feedback on the Kinetic Road Machine now that I have had it awhile...awesome. My research did not fail me.
I put a lot of research into them, all types. I knew I did not want a wind trainer and quickly realized I did not want rollers. Magnetic, meh, too loud too. Problem with fluid was eventual leaks. Not with a Kinetic as my research found.
I have the basic Road Trainer, not the one that can bend like you are going around a turn. I got mine at Clown Dog here in Austin, they are official dealers of it in addition to a couple of other shops. I am partial to Clown Dog as they are great guys and have a great shop with top notch service, etc. I suggest them.
At first I was meh about the lime green color of the ones now but it grew on me. Pull that trigger. I can stand in the saddle and it does not even phase this sturdy trainer. I rode the first mountain stage with the TDF, sorta, in my own way.
i would only be taking that bike off the trainer when the other just could not make the commute to work for some reason. A joy of having a 7 minute or less commute to work is that I give myself 6 most times. So when I realize I somehow got two flats or something like that, the frenzy to get out the door and basically sprint to work has to be comical to my dog.
