Cycling: Astana will be tough

Sounds like a lot of chiefs, and not too many Indians. Looking forward to Le Tour this year, should be really interesting.

I heard Lance was only riding in support. As one who doesn't know the intricacies of the sport but is a huge Lance fan, is this true? I know I sound like a Tour de France t-shirt fan but it would kind of suck to watch it without a chance of Lance winning it.

Well, that's TBD. A friend of mine who has a lot of experience and gear picked it up for me in Nashville last weekend. He says it's a good bike...it just needs a new chain and, possibly, new tires.

I'm pretty excited because my knees are giving me all kinds of trouble and biking seems to be one of the few things that doesn't aggravate them.

Knoxville-each team has a designated leader for whom the other riders support. However, sometimes there are two or three with a bonafied chance of winning, which can be positive or negative.
If two or three are among the overall leaders after a few stages and the tour comes to the mountains, and if the leader of the team falters, the other challengers may have the legs to assume the lead of the race and the team-so there can be a new team leader at that point.
This is where fans of Lance Armstrong hope he still has the old magic, and something like that scenario could play out. We'll see how it goes. He may be content to work for the other members of the team, and just be there to take part to publicize his cancer awareness foundation. His conditioning, age, and injury may not allow him to do more.

Why is the Astana team riding in Northern California right now?

I thought once the season started, it was all Europe all the time.

By the way, it's a carbon fiber Specialized Allez. I'm pretty excited about it considering it is my starter bike and I got it for free. It's a couple of years old but about 50 lbs lighter than the mountain bike I've been riding to and from work in the hills on.

That does give me hope for Lance. With his drive and cockiness, I can't imagine he wouldn't take the opportunity if it arises.

It is still weird that they are competing in the U.S. The level of competition is just not the same.

We all saw how Levi could not keep up in the Giro.
