Im fine with putting a violent criminal / rapist / sex offender etc in the slammer for a long time but not a non violent drug offender (specially da weed)

I would be all for totally eliminating sentences for personal drug use. Just eliminate any free health care or other benefits for drug users which includes spending money on sending them to prison.

the drug war in general has been an abject failure. We need to do real research and determine the true addictive nature of specific drugs. I think most of the gateway effect of most drugs is 'gateway to the life style' rather than truly a stepping stone from one drug to the next because you need a new high. In particular, I think the weed as a gateway argument is overblown.

Just treat it like alcohol. tax it and keep it away from under 21.

I'm even good with paying for a single instance of rehab. It is still much cheaper than prison expenses.

Is there a test to know if somebody is driving under the influence? I think that would be a good thing to have. Most don't drive when high likely out of fear of being pulled over smelling like weed. But if it were legal to smoke there may be a much higher number of people doing so. And since you don't really feel drunk when high, it may increase dramatically the number of people who think they are fine to drive drunk/high.

So if they put a test in the mix that could maybe slow this affect down I say go for it. Maybe not as extreme as the DWI ones but close. Just keep people at home listening to music and watching Bewitched reruns.

Maybe we should put horse troughs full of free meth and heroin on all street corners. After a few months many of the drug problems would solve itself.

How about we triple the cost of healthcare for everyone so we can use the excess funds to pay for drugs for everyone who wouldn't buy them for themselves before?
