Custom PC shops in Austin?

I need a PC built for my studio, and I need it fast. I'm inclined to go with Wallingford Electronics. They seem very professional and have been around for years. I don't think I've ever heard a bad word about them, unless it's that their components aren't always as cheap as one can find on pricewatch.com, etc. I wouldn't expect them to compete in that regard, either.

I have a specific motherboard (Asus P4C800E Deluxe), processor (Intel P4 3.0+ GHz), video card (Matrox P-650), and RAM (Corsair TWINX1024C Pro) in mind, as this configuration is known to be rock solid for the application I want to run (Steinberg's Nuendo). Wallingford will build it to my exact spec. Star Tech pushed back on the RAM, having never heard of Corsair. Computer Geeks hasn't returned a quote.

Can anyone recommend any other shops, particularly those that will build to my exact spec?

PLEASE don't suggest that I "roll my own". I don't build computers, I use them. I'm willing to pay someone to build it and offer a warranty on their work. I need this thing by Friday, and there is no way in hell I could build it myself in that timeframe, particularly when I work 50+ hours per week.

Thanks for any suggestions . . .

I've used Laboratory computers for the last few years and have been very happy. Many of the guys have been there since it was chipsmart back in 1996. Their prices are consistanly lower than anyplace else and they stand behind their work. I've probably ordered around 50 computers in the last 5 years and have only had one that was a piece of ****. They ended up fixing it several times for free and it's worked fine for the last year.

These guys aren't in austin but they are just up the road. The link you could give them a try.

I actually own a Dell laptop, so I'm definitely not biased against the company. I just got such a major headache trying to custom-configure a box on their website that I gave up.

If you want very specific parts picked from pricewatch, I would say bite the bullet and build your own. Otherwise I would go with Laboratory Computers. I used to buy their stuff back when it was called Chipsmart and have had no trouble. Thesedays, I tend to bounce between build myself and Dell depending on what I want.

I just had that system quoted by Laboratory Computers. They came in about $150 cheaper than Wallingford Computers did, but offer less warranty (1 year vs. 5 years). Thoughts?

I doubt this computer will be much more than a doorstop in 5 years.

Generally if it doesn't break in the first year, most computer parts will last a few years.
