Curry Powder vs Paste

What is the difference between curry powder vs paste (besides the obvious textural differences)? When would you use one instead of the other?

Curry powders are generally ground spices like tumeric, fenugreek, coriander, cumin, etc. and are typically what the Brits produced to mimic Indian curries.

Pastes have ground spices, but also aromatics like garlic, peppers, lemongrass, ginger and galangal. Curry pastes are typical of Thai, Indonesian, and other Southeast Asian cuisines.

I use both and typically add coconut milk to both.

Simple and tasty.
