So what is most important to them? Recent program success? Since 2004 and including ytd (5 seasons back to when the current high school seniors were 12/13):

Texas 66-8
USC 66-9
Boise St 65-9
Fla 61-14
Oh St 60-14
LSU 59-16
OU 60-17
WV 57-16
Utah 57-16
Ga 56-18

A couple of interesting teams in there...West Virginia and Utah.

There was a peer reviewed paper by some economists that said the top 3 factors were 1) proximity to home, 2) previous season's record, and 3) stadium size. Can't recall what order, but those 3 explained about 70%.

Interesting Lap. By going by that we can first consider no.1.
This is one no one has control over but Austin is withing 194 miles of Dallas and 161 miles of Houston and both have freeways here so we are less than 3 hours away from those cities if one drives the speed limit. And if we put a raidius of 200 miles around Austin we would have a big area that is less than 3 hours from Austin.
No. 2 We have had great season records the past several years and have had 10 or better wins per season. Not bad at all.
No. 3 Our stadium is very hugh and draws large crowds and is awesome. Also great atmosphere provided by our tailgaters. No problem here

Another reason which I wish was a factor would be the fact you can get a great education at UT which is recognized as one of the best Universities in the Country. Austin is a growing city and provides employment for many of our graduates.

bis, yes, houson has freeways, but not a one of them goes to austin, a fact that has boggled what's left of my mind for decades. how can two of the most important cities of texas, merely 160 miles apart, not be connected by a limited access highway? if you want to make that entire drive on a freeway, you have to go 100 miles out of the way.

then when you get to austin, a lot of the freeways aren't free ways.

crazy both.
