Cuatro's on west campus

Has anybody been to this place? I saw it last night when dropping of my brother that lives a block away. It's on 24th near San Gabriel where Bongo BBQ used to be and it's got a large outside area.

I just turned 34 so I'm over a decade out of their target but I'll swing by for happy hour soon.

Nothing really on the site yet:

The wife and I stopped by Saturday afternoon. It is very nice. They have great tvs, much better than Cain & Abels, and a good bar set up. They did seem to have an issue on who was waiting on which tables, but that is probably from being new. They also had a bee issue, which didn't bother me; but some of the sorority girls were definately concerned.
They had Lone Star beer on draft, which is big plus for me.

He worked at Hula Hut for a long time I think and makes some badass food according to people I've heard from. Hopefully it's a success, he's got a badass location.

I visited this weekend. Honestly - I wasn't very impressed. The building itself is cool and the location is great... but the menu was VERY limited (a few burgers and tacos) and the food quality was just ok. In fact, my buddy left half his burger on the plate (and he isn't one to ever leave food ont he table). I think it'll do well with the west-campus crowd, but I don't think it'll attract much anyone beyond that.

Just stopped by today. Has a full bar, about a dozen beers on tap, better than average bar food (grilled fish tacos very nice for a light lunch), lots of nice flat panel TVs, cold A/C for when it's hot and nice decks for when it's nice out. I liked it.

Went yesterday...the set up is great decently priced drinks and my friends enjoyed their food. I had a burger and as mentioned above it sucked out loud.

I would say a return trip to drink on the patio will be in my future but a burger will not.

I have been to this place several times and always enjoyed it. We were there last night (early like at 7:00) and there was a group of the most obnoxious drunk aholes I had ever encountered. The poor bar staff was having to continually apologize to the other patrons, mentioning that they can't do anything about them because the bar owner was with them. These idiots were drinking free shots like water and stumbling into other tables. I don't know if that is typical for him (he actually didn't seem that hammered himself), but that could be major trouble ahead for Cuatro. Can you imagine if something bad happened to or due to one of these fools and it came back that the bar owner was furnishing the booze while the bartenders were scared to shut them down?

haha

P/C and I were there for lunch and had the fortune to have that guy sit at our table (P/C met him a couple weeks before and he invited himself to sit with us). I left at the half of the soccer match so it was hours before you saw them. He was drinking at 1pm and was slightly obnoxious so I'm sure he was lovely by 7pm.

Yes, I am sure that was him. He kept falling into the bar stools, which got quite annoying. I don't think the girls were the same though, but I had my back to them for the most part. If you did want one of them to sit on your face at 7:00, all you would have had to do is lay on the floor.

I had the Schlee Burger. It was really good; however, they obviously grind their meat there and it was overworked (for a better word). It gave it a strange texture.

I also know a guy named Cuatro. His old man is pretty loaded and he was president of the KAs, so I doubt that he ever worked at Hula Hut.

I came across this post regarding Cuatro's, and I felt terrible. First and foremost, to Jelly, I believe you are referring to me. The European Cup Championships have been going on this past month, so the bar area has been populated by many football fans, from different countries. I want to apologize if I was slightly obnoxious, and invited myself to sit at your table..how rude. I usually sit at the bar, or with my girlfriend and our friends at our own table/s. I do not know if that was me or not, but since I always wear brightly colored football jerseys when I am there, it could be. However, I do not get stumbling drunk off my ***, and stumble around running into bar stools and patrons of an establishment. I was with the owner and some other friends one day, and we were doing shots, but not free, and Cuatro did join us for a brief spell. It wasn't very crowded that day, so I am not sure if the other post was referring to that. There is one more item. I have become friends with Cuatro and his staff, and really would like to have his place succeed. One bit of information, the European Championship is over, so the crowd you have witnessed, more than likely won't be back anytime soon, in fact it's more than likely will be replaced by the hoop-la of UT Football games, and all that comes with that. The place has big plans for the UT home games with tailgates, bands, extra TV's etc. The owner is the guy from the Hula Hut, and he is a UT Grad, and has invested a sizeable chunk of change on West Campus to bring his brand of food and atmosphere. A drunk induced patron bar, is not the atomsphere he wishes to have, and the day he was with us, he was letting off some steam. I would hate to see that one month of European Football would scare anyone away, and especially if you aren't going because your concerned about a bunch of drunks running around. I hope you all will try him again, and if you don't like what you were served, I know they are very intrested in any feedback, positive or negative. So, again, my apologies Jelly, heck this might not even be me, but I just want to cover all bases. Hook'em

Jensoid,

My wife and I were seated at the bar (not a table) so no need to apologize (it obviously wasn't you I was referring to). We live close to Cuatros and have been there quite a few times (inlcuding this weekend). I really like the place and am very hopeful it succeeds. As stated earlier, my primary concern is that if the bartenders feel that they are unable to cut off certain patrons because they are with the owner it could really spell trouble in the long run. It appears that this was just an isolated incident. A young dude with a lot of friends that owns a bar...it takes a lot of willpower. This being a college based bar, I fully expect there to be full blown drunks and that will not detour me. In fact, the last time we were at Cain & Abel's we sat next to a little sorority girl that was blowing chow. The kicker was that she bitched at the waitress for cutting her off (after she heaved by her seat at 5:00 pm).

Thanks, I even called my Sig Other and asked her about the 19th, just in case I missed something. I understand your concern with Cuatro, but I believe that was a one off... Should be fun this fall for the UT Games.. Haven't seen anyone get sick yet... but there is always time for that... I hope the staff in the future will cut people off, because if TABC is in there, they will arrest them for serving someone who is intoxicated...perhaps I'll see you there sometime.

this place is great, abel's is definitely in for a struggle now. great layout, good bar menu, nice drink specials.

Dude named Matt who bartends there is among the best around, super guy, been in there a couple of times and he's had the bar buzzing and bouncing, a group chanting his name the other day.

This place will gain many fans and friends, especially come football.

i have never been to Cuatros, but have driven by and it does seem like it has a great set up. My question:

Why are there not more places like this in West Campus? You would think it would be "easy pickings". People could drink, not get in their cars;a huge demographic of bar going patrons living in a pretty dense area.

What other bars/pubs are there in the heart of West Campus? Abel's and...? Seems like there is a need.

I figure they would be watched pretty heavily by TBAC, with such a huge 20 and under demographic living in that area as well. Maybe that is why bars don't work so well in west campus. About half the people are under 21.
