Cruise Questions

The wife and I are taking a cruise on the Celebrity "Century" ship out of Miami in a couple of weeks. The cruise is going from Miami to Cozumel. I'm looking for some cruising advice from the colective wisdom of hornfans. Some specific questions:

- Is alcohol included? If not, how about a bottle of rum in a scope bottle?
- Any fun ideas for the Cozumel and Key West stops?
- Any general cruise tips?
- Anybody been on this ship?

Why didn't just take the Galveston to Cozumel cruise?

Anyway, alcohol is not included but vodka/rum in water bottles does the trick. I think beer is around $3 and they have specials all the time, although most are fruity/tropical/umbrella type drinks. The bloody mary special in the morning is greatness.

We took 4 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of rum, and 2 of vodka in their original bottles, no problems. Buy some small squirt bottles at walmart in the travel section and fill them up everyday before you head to the pool, beach, etc.

Embarkation: SHOW UP AT 11:30 AM (about 1.5 hrs early) local time to get on the ship. We got on in about 10 minutes as opposed to the hour people waited who came when Carnival suggested they show up. Also, go check on your room right away. The doors to the halls will be closed but we were able to immediately get into our room and stow our carry ons.

Life-boat drill--- don't get there first are you will be against the wall with 6 rows of people in front of you. Wait until the last call for this, you show up last and you aren’t pushed against the wall. When it is over, you leave first too.

Bring an extension cord or a 3 pug adaptor...there is never an electrical out let where you need it.

Feel free to order a different or second entree, salad, desert, etc. It is considered "normal" to do so.

Go to the tenders whenever you feel like it. We ignored the tag system that assigns you certain times to board the tenders. Just get in line and walk on.

Book the excursions yourself. They are usually much less crowded and about 25$ cheaper. The only time we booked through the ship was in a tender port for a beach/drinking excursion.

Check out the forums section. They will have forums for your specific cruise, ship, ports. Got great advice here.

Great advice has already been posted i'm just going to ditto the drinking advice. Stow it in your suitcase that you check and it will be delivered to your door no problems. You can buy duty free once you're out on the ocean but beware you can't actually claim it until the last day when you leave. The only time i remember having "free" drinks was at the show before our formal dinner and they were the fruity kind.

We bought duty free liquor on board, and we just took it with us. It is about the same price as you'd pay here, so I don't see any reason to bring it on board.

I haven't been on this cruise, but I went on Rhapsody of the Seas. It was everything I had heard of: fat white people eating huge troughs of food and making fun of the locals for being different.

I'll freely admit that going in I had a bad attitude, so that probably had something to do with it. Okay, a lot to do with it. I cannot imagine ever taking another cruise as long as I live. I think if you went in with an open mind, you can make it a fun time. Lots of good tips already here.

It is beginning to look like I'm going to miss the first weekend of March Madness - one of my favorite times of the entire year. Oh well, maybe I can find a bar in Key West to watch our game over a margarita. I can't get a good answer out of the cruise whether the game will be shown. Do they usually have a sports book in the ship casino on these ships?

Not that I have ever seen. And, I don't remember there being a network feed at all.

You do get local news from some cities, though. Maybe they do broadcast some network stuff. I can't remember. What I do remember is thinking that I wouldn't want to be cruising on a college football Saturday.

I have heard that they will show NFL playoff games and the Superbowl, so I don't see why they couldn't show March Madness. Heck, if my parents can get the satellite to work on their RV, why can't a billion dollar cruise ship get it to work?

I am starting to consider buying a small portable TV and taking it onboard and trying to get a local channel while docked in Miami. I will be "at sea" on Sunday, so if they don't show the games on TV, I am pretty much out of luck.

And yes, being blasted sitting at the pool gorging on free food watching college basketball all day would be pretty awesome.

They have satellite feeds on cruises. I have watched NFL and NBA games there. You should be set. The Ecstasy out of Galveston most definitely will have you covered.

I cruised on norwegian and they x-rayed all luggage. they called me down and held 2 bottles of wine nd a bottle of xo vodka for me for the duration.

you cant drink the liquor you buy at duty free. You get it back when you disembark. Carnival definitely doesnt xray. We had a bottle of vodka and whisky packed in our bags. Also they will let you bring wine on board. They allow 1 bottle per person per night. You will get charged a cork fee at dinner. 10 bucks or so.
