Crown Molding recommendations?

Need some help here. Planning on having crown molding installed throughout the home, and if it matters, will paint it white (not any kind of varnish).

Always thought that wood was the way to go, but now I'm seeing this polyurethane stuff that supposedly doesn't split, rot, or warp.

Experiences? Recommendations? Costs? Ease of installation?

Paint it before you put it up. I've always used wood; the plastic stuff imo looks too perfect, plus it comes in shorter lengths (more splices) and I'd think would not work well with a nail gun. Also cope the inside corners instead of bevel. Power miter saw is a must. If your walls and ceilings are pretty straight the job is pretty easy. Home depot has a better selection than lowes does, plus they let you buy only as much as you need (you cut it in store). Here's a good how to:

Two pieces of crown molding in my living room are starting to come apart where they met. I am assuming this is because one or both of the pieces have warped slightly. I just need to sand, put in a little filler, and repaint. No biggie.

There is some stuff that is made out of what appears to be pressed saw dust. It is great. It is perfectly straight and already primed in white. As others have mentioned, paint before you install. Get a powered miter saw, it is cake. You can also cheat on your corners by buying outside and inside corner molings.
