Got one for Christmas and it is still sitting in its box. I have no idea what to do with it. I desperately need some recipe ideas for it.

Beef Burgundy

3 slices bacon, chopped
2 lbs stew meat
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 beef bouillon cube, crushed
1 cup dry red wine
1 cup sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons cornstarch disolved in 2 tablespoons water if needed to thicken
Cooked wide noodles

In a skillet, cook the bacon. Remove the bacon and set aside coat the meat with flour and brown in bacon drippings. Put the bacon, meat, spices, bouillon and wine in the crock pot, cover, and set on low for 6 hours. When beef is tender, turn to high and add mushrooms and cook for 15 more minutes. If sauce is thin, add cornstarch mix until it thickens a bit. Serve over noodles.

I am going to try Italian Beef sandwiches for the Super Bowl.

Crockpot Italian Beef Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
3 1/2 to 4 pounds beef roast, sirloin tip or rump roast
12 ounces (jar) Italian Giardiniera, drained, less if you want it less spicy
12 ounces (jar) pepperoncini peppers
1 envelope Italian salad dressing (zesty Italian)
10 ounce can condensed beef broth

PREPARATION:
Place beef roast in a 3 1/2 to 5-quart slow cooker. Combine Giardiniera, pepperoncini peppers, dry salad dressing mix, and condensed beef broth.
Add all mixture to crockpot. Cover and cook on LOW for 12 to 14 hours, until meat is very tender.

Use a fork to shred for sandwiches and serve with crusty Italian rolls or crusty bread. Serves 10 to 15.

Easy Barbecue Beef Sandwiches

1.5 - 2 lbs roast
Put in Crock pot. Pour 2 bottles your favorite barbecue sause over the roast. Add onions.

Cook low for 8-9 hours. After cooked, use fork to shred and mix. Put on buns.

My 12 year old son makes this weekly.

Something else that's really easy and pretty good is taking 3-4 pounds of frozen chicken tenders or breasts (try the HCF 4lb. bags from HEB) and putting them in the crockpot w/ two envelopes of taco seasoning and a jar of salsa of your preference (probably at least a medium size jar).

Let that cook all day on low and then stir in a 8 oz container of sour cream near the end.

The chicken just falls apart and is great in tortillas or as a taco filler. Plus, because of the high sodium content (not a recipe for those w/ high blood pressure), the leftovers last forever!

Italian Beef is all about the au jus and high quality roast beef.....
The Link

I'm making "soft meat" this weekend, which is my mother-in-law's recipe.

Brown some tenderized top round in a skillet, then add to the crock pot with enough water to cover it and a couple of beef bullion cubes. Cook on low for about 4 hours, then make some gravy with the liquid, milk, and corn starch.

This one of my all-time favorite recipes. It comes from Los Dos Molinos in Phoenix, Arizona. If you have an opportunity to visit the real deal, it is a fun place to spend a Friday night waiting on the patio with a bucket of beers as you sit through the 1.5 to 2 hour wait for food. And it is worth the wait.

The recipe calls for a dutch oven, but the crock pot works the same. I am making this for the superbowl and it goes great with homemade tortillas, made from scratch. Yum!

Edit: This dish is very spicy so be careful. Or add some more chile flakes if you like it that way...

Carne Adovada
Recipe courtesy Victoria Chavez, Los Dos Molinos
Show: FoodNation With Bobby Flay
Episode: Phoenix, AZ

6 to 8 pounds pork loin, cut into 2 to 3-inch cubes
1/2 cup New Mexico powder chile
1/2 cup New Mexico chile flakes
2 tablespoons oregano
2 tablespoons garlic salt
2 tablespoons cumin
2 tablespoons fresh garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons black pepper
2 Spanish onions, chopped
2 cups broth

Put all ingredients in a Dutch oven. Cook uncovered for 4 hours. Turn off heat and check for tenderness, but do not stir.

The Italian Beef turned out pretty well. I thought the flavor blend was a little odd, but I've never even eaten the dish before. I'll have to try it again with some of my own modifications. Some pics:Just starting the crockpot

my experience was kinda similar to tex pete's, it was my first time to try the dish and it was a bit different than what i expected. i used a package and a half of italian dressing, and also added a shiner bock to the broth, as well as a sliced yellow onion,a nd a bit of chopped garlic. my local store didnt have gardinera peppers, so i just threw in a whole jar of pepperocinis with their juice, and it was more vinegary than i expected or wanted -- so i ended up cutting it with a bit more beef broth towards the end. 2 jars of peppers i think would have been overwhelming for my taste. but it was good on an italian roll with cento sweet peppers and hot peppers, like they serve at delaware. the second one i ate with a slice of provolone cheese. i'd make it again, it was cheap and easy, but made with the peppers but not the pepper juice.

no pics, sorry. i really need to get a digital camera or figure out how to upload pics from my phone, i think i need a certain kind of software to do it.

1 Pot Roast
4-5 Potatos cut into "chips"
1 Bag baby carrots
Worcesheterhiresher sauce

Mix, turn on low, go to work, come home to heaven.

Salt and pepper a rump roast.
Brown it on all sides in a very hot skillet.
Throw some chopped onions, celery and carrots in first.
Place the roast on top of the veggies.
Pour in two cans of beef broth and a little red wine.
Cook on low heat for about twelve hours.

I put one on when I leave for work.
Come home and your house will smell like your grandmother's on a Sunday afternoon.

Whip up some Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and enjoy.

I have a Chocolate Cake recipe for the crock pot - but can not find it. I did come across this one though while looking. Have not tried it, but it looks interesting. I may have to get mine out and try it soon.

You can make chili in a crock pot.

I will piss off the purists here but this is what I do:

1-1.5 pounds of ground beef - Brown it before you throw it in
1 can dark red kidney beans
1 can light red kidney beans
1 can black beans
1 can Ro-Tel (I prefer the mild)
Chili Powder
Cummin

Combine it all, set it on low and let it simmer for 3-4 hours. If you want to avoid having the black beans turn to mush, you can wait to throw them in until about 90 minutes before you intend to serve it.

It is getting cold, sort of, in Texas and it is in other parts of the country not lucky enough to be Texas. So time to dust off the Crock Pots. Any new recipes or ideas?

I will try one this weekend. Don't know which one.

This was tasty:

Crock pot Hungarian Goulash

Ingredients:
3 medium onions, chopped
1 large green pepper, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 pounds beef stew meat or beef round steak cut into 1 inch pieces
1- 12 ounce can tomato paste
3 tsp paprika
¼ tsp black pepper
1- 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes, undrained

Spray crock pot with non-stick cooking spray. Add all ingredients, mix well. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or high 3-4 hours. Serve with noodles.

Note: Add another teaspoon or so of paprika if you'd like a little more spice.

I did this one the other day. It's Asian comfort food. It's not for those who are watching their fat or cholesterol.

2 pounds pork belly
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
2 finely chopped leeks
2 teaspoons 5 spice powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Cut pork belly into 3 inch squares. Mix all the remaining ingredients together and marinade the pork belly in this mixture overnight.

Toss everything into the crockpot and set on low for 8-9 hours.

Serve over rice.

At first I thought you finished with, "serve over ice" (cuz you said Asian comfort food above).

Serve over ice?
