Credit Crunch Casualties

Are you a credit crunch casualty?

I think I am. American Express just cancelled me. I've had this card for 28 years, with no problems. I have no known other problems, and never have had other than a few late payments.

BUT, some dickweed with my name has a problem and periodically I have to tell bill collectors that they have the wrong SSN, wrong address, wrong birth day, wrong everything, not to mention I never went to that store or even lived in that city at that time.

All of this is several years old but I've never bothered to fix my credit report. I never looked at it, and have no intention of needing new credit. I also figured since they had a different SSN it wouldn't be on my credit report. I was wrong. Now evidently AE now decides I'm a risk even though this mistake has been sitting there for a few years.

I figure if there was no credit crunch AE would continue to want my business.

Sorry, Tahoe. I'm sure you don't need them ---but a long time good customer deserves better treatment. Vote for Obama and he will fix this mess

Tahoe,
that doesn't sound so much like a credit crunch causuality as just the actions of this other dude with your name finally catching up with you.
It is like my wife's cousin, who is female, but has the same name as a no fly actual terrorist who is male. She has all kinds of problems flying even though her gender is very obviously not even the same. It is an identity problem not a credit problem.

You have to be vigilant about your credit. Get the free annual reports and contest anything thats not right. I'd still do that if I was you even though its been several years. I've had to get my dad's problems off my credit report a few times since I'm a junior. They always removed it without an issue.

pulque,
I don't know, but it seems you just aren't listening. Obama is going to CUT taxes on almost everyone, AND add many helpful programs including an even more universal health care system, AND increase the number of total troops deployed overseas, AND also balance the budget.

He will cut tax rates and tax revenues, while increasing expenditures, but also balancing the budget. That is what he says he will do.

Happening to small business owners all over the country. Lenders and credit card companies are looking MUCH more closely at the credit of those they lend to. Home Equity Lines of Credit are being eliminated or markedly reduced in many cases, which are a perfect funding mechanism with tax benefits to small businesses across the country.

I would first and foremost get your credit reports fixed and dispute any and all negative notations on your report. I woudl also contact AmEx as soon as I did this and explain that wthere were many negative erronious bits on info on your account.

You might also be interested to know that your credit score just fell in this process as your debt/credit availibilty ration just fell with near certainty.

In a nutshell yes you are indeed a victim of the credit crunch because lenders are starting to look proactively for potential future risks, and you got caught up in this practice. Not to worry though, you will soon be getting more offers in the mail where you can go to the nearest local office and cash that check for a mere 25% interest, with no early payment interest reduction!

I woudl fix the errors immediately!
