credit card stolen

My friends credit card was recently stollen. Whoever stole it used it at a few stores before my friend was able to cancel it. One of the places they used the card was at Wal-Mart. So I was wondering if there is anyway we would be able to find out who used her card? Does anyone know if Wal-Mart could find out who it was on their security cameras or would that really not matter since we would have to recognize the person? Anyone know what should be done about this? Or is my friend just out of luck?

I'm not an expert on this, but I think it may depend on the dollar amount that the thieves tried to charge on it.

At Wal-Mart I think she said they bought about $250 worth of stuff. I know it was a total of almost $1000 but like I said it was at more than one store.

The obvious question is has he informed the cops? I assume he notified his bank immediately so that he is not liable. The major player here is the bank. They can push the issue with the cops if they don't go at it on their own. They can press charges if the person is recognized or caught.

But the key thing here is if he filled out a report with the cops if it was stolen out of his car or home. Also that he called his bank right when he noticed it was gone or lost. If he delayed, he may be hosed to an extent depending on how much time has passed.

Keep in touch with the bank. I understand his anger, I would be pissed. WalMart, if the charges are refused by the bank, will maybe do something about it as well as the other stores. If enough people pressure the cops, they may get footage and prepare a report or file about it.

We have a poster in Waco, I think, who had to be proactive in finding the culprit who stole his card or checks and aided in getting them identified. Maybe he will chime in.
