Credit Card Processing

I am starting a business and would like to be able to accept credit cards. Cards will be used either via telephone call in or in person. Other than setting up a merchant account with my bank to accept credit cards, is there a way to do that easier, and cheaper via the web?

Other than just doing a search, I am hoping to find someone who is currently using a service they are happy with and trust. Can Paypal be used for this type of processing?

usually there are two rates, one for in hand transactions where you get the credit card over the phone.

If you are starting your business you might check into purchasing Quick books. They actually have a very good rate for transactions. Usually there is a flat charge to set up your account, and a per transaction percentage fee.

Do NOt get locked into a long term contract where you have equipment unless you have a store front operation and need a terminal.

Have you registered the dba or incorporated yet? Once you do that, you will be inundated with credit card processing company mail. Be careful not to go by rate alone. There are set up fees, equipment fees, monthly fees, transaction fees and contract lengths. I'd ask (as you have done here) for recommendations from anyone else you can think of. Maybe even just ask or call people at businesses that are of a similar size. My company went with one of the lowest rate and fee companies we saw and haven't been all that thrilled with them. Too many service problems, statements that look like heiroglyphics (sp?) and "tech" people that can barely count. I'll pm you that company's name so you can throw that mailer away.

I got a guy here in town that has set up many of my customers. I haven't had a compaint about him yet.

PM me for his contact info if interested.
