Cranial acne

I don't have bad acne, but lately I've been finding a fair amount of zits and such on the top of my head. I don't have a clue how long I've had them because they hide in my hair.

What the hell? Should I try changing my shampoo?

I had this bad as a teenager. Changed my shampoo to scalp shampoo, got prescription stuff... None of it worked. Only thing that did work was Accutane but I'm guessing you don't want to go that route...

Those zits can hurt like hell too...

I buzz my head... and this happens every once in a while. Not sure there is much you can do. I think it is in-grown related...

Does it amaze anyone else how many 'in-grown hair' related threads there are.... i swear, at least one a week.

I use Pert Plus and nothing else. If it's good enough for Mike Piazza, it's good enough for me.

I do sweat a lot, so my scalp gets pretty greasy by the end of the day.

Neutrogena T-Gel once a week or is the solution to this problem. You've gotta keep it in your hair for like 5-10 minutes, though.

I'm not sure what the condition is called, but I think it's hereditary, as I and my dad and my brothers all have it, and we all have full heads of hair. If I go a month without using it, it comes back. Some people really hate the smell of it, but it is worth it.

I don't get it bad, but I do get it. A bi-monthly soak in Denorex (desonex? whichever one had the "it tingles, so I know it's working!" commercials in the 90's) seems to keep it clear for me, and helps with the occasional bout with dandruff.

I've had oily skin all my life so I can relate. You need to shampoo with whatever stuff you like every day and wash your face 2-3 times a day. Of course, Acutane is a wonder drug if you want to go that route. BTW, males that are prone to acne on their scalps, are likely to undergo early balding. Once they lose their hair, the acne stops (I married to a Dermatologist). Have you ever seen a bald guy with acne? I haven't either.

Although I have never had what you're describing, I think DHS shampoo might help you out. It's a Zinc-based shampoo available behind the counter at CVS or Walgreens and is great for scalp-related issues.

i never got them on my scalp... but at the back of my neck just inside the hair line was a real *****.

my acne has cleaned up over the past two years... but my forehead keeps breaking out. wtf..

Agree 100% on the shampoo/conditioner combo being a reason. Change it up to something else and don't be a ***** about paying $2-3 more for something. If it's going to keep you from getting zits on your head, it's worth it. Go w/ some Paul Mitchell Tea Tree, that's good for your scalp. Don't use a leave in conditioner either.

I also second the t-gel. It does stink, but it's great. After you wash you can use your nice smelling conditioner and you're all good. I get flaky scalp a couple of times a year when the weather changes drastically and use NTG. It's really, really good.

The active ingredient in Neutrogena T-Gel is, if I recall correctly, a very small percentage of coal tar. That is pretty serious stuff. In medicated Selsun, it is selenium sulfide. I tried the T-gel and it was a lot of trouble and did not seem to address the condition-sebhorrea. Selsun worked better for me. I got the strong impression from at least one doctor that there is really no cure for it; about all you can do is suppress the symptoms.

Just wanted to point out that I've been using Selsun Blue since last Thursday and the acne has already improved drastically.

You can use a few drops of tea tree oil in your regular shampoo and it should help. Or just buy tea tree oil shampoo from your local health food store. It really does work.

don't you mean..... 'boil on my butt thread"...

Shitif yo are not using a dandruff shampoo even frigging head and shoulders you need to. Dandruff is caused my excess oil and grease, not dryness. or you can stick with...

Pert's "Pimple PLUS" because it's good enough for Mike....
