Craigslist sellers beware

Not sure where to post this but this forum seems to have a lot of sellers and buyers frolicking so thought I'd pass this on...

So I posted some textbooks for sale in San Antonio and got a reply shortly after from a P. Rowe: "Why are you selling this Hope to hear from you."

I posted some furniture for sale in Houston and got a reply shortly after from a E. Rowe: "Is that all youre asking for? Talk to you soon."

I don't think I would thought much of their odd questions had their names not been similar, but that was the first thing that raised the red flag.

Then I posted a few more pieces of furniture for sale and got the following 2 replies from 2 different people, both for diff items, again shortly after:

"Why are you selling this Hope to hear from you." (identical to above)

"Has anyone bought this yet? Hope to hear from you." (yes, minutes after I posted)

Too much of a coincidence for me to believe that these are legitimate people. I'm guessing they're spammers getting more creative about getting valid email addresses from ppl? If so, they have apparently taken over the for sale boards on craigslist, and I'm sure some of the other ones too, so you're better off ignoring these emails. I'm sure they get plenty of replies, and I probably would have replied to, had I not been trying to sell multiple items.

If you don't use a separate email address for spam (I do), I would suggest asking for a phone number in all replies, as it seems to weed these ******** out. I can't imagine how many unsuspecting ppl have taken the bait.

Anyway, just a psa to all you craigslist sellers on hornfans...

I replied to 2 of these days apart. After I went back through them, I noticed the similar language, and thought, "I just screwed up". Oh well, more junk mail.

That is a very sad commentary of how bleak someone's life must be. I can only imagine what kind of loser one has to be to go through Craig's List and email inane comments to sellers and think it is fun.

I'm pretty sure people write software that scans for new posts, detects the email address and then sends a generic email, minutes after it is posted. Once that software is written, it doesn't take all that much to make it scan every craigslist in the country.

maybe that explains the sudden increase i have gotten in nigeria, or nigeria like, emails. i swear i get four or five a week. more than anyone i know.
