Cozymel's opening in Austin

I'm still in school here at the other "UT" and currently working at a restaurant called Cozymel's. There are a few in the Dallas area, one in Chicago, Little Rock, Memphis, La Jolla, Nashville, etc..
Anyway, they're opening one up on Braker Lane (I think). AND, I get to come down to Austin to help set it up!!! I'm so excited to get to come back home where I began my college career. Plus, they're paying me alot of money to do it. (Well, alot of money for a college student).
Though I personally wouldn't put Cozymel's on the same level as some of the Tex-Mex already in place in Austin - it's still pretty decent.
Looking forward to coming home.

Puddle:

I sent you an e-mail. I'll be in Austin the last week of April/ first week of May. I'll be wearing the Texas tie.

If it's anything like the one in Plano, you are going to be knee deep in sorrority girls from Day 1. Twenty different frozen margarita machines? Faggitaboutit.

Hell yes. Sounds good to me. I'm tiring a little of the inbred chicks in overalls. Just kidding. The chicks here aren't bad.

Cozymel's is a 100% improvement over OTB. Brinker ruined the original OTB concept. I closed down the original OTB on Knox and helped open the OTB they threw in at the old Grady's down the street (which I also closed).

All of the original OTB employees stressed how important retaining the fundamental aspects of the original OTB idea was and we were mostly ignored by Brinker management. OTB is now just "Chili's Tex-Mex".

Well I would suggest that you make yourself aquainted with the bartenders and management at Z tejas around the corner from your new location.

1/2 price KILLER appetizers m-th during happy hour 4-7 at the bar, 4-6 in dining. Ahi tuna for 4.50, fish tacos $4.... mmmmmm

Great. Another disgusting chain restaurant bringing down the Arboretum. It still can't top the SUCK factor of them tearing down the Arbor to put in a freakin Cheesecake Factory....but Geez, "Cozy-mel's"?! Like that's supposed to be cute or something? Spare me. I'll stick with my Austin favorites. Gotta support the Austin economy or else we're going to turn into another Houston or Dallas. (as if we're not dangerously close already)

It's not really worth bitching about since it's just replacing the empty building that used to be OTB. It's not like they tore down Magnolia Cafe.

And the Arbor Cinema is finally moving across the street. With 3 Alamo Draft Houses + the reborn Arbor, we'll be in good shape for the funky movie experience for quite awhile.

DAMMIT - Grady's rocked - that's the last one here.

..and not to rain on your parade, but Grady's is a chain. Originally a Brinker concept, then they sold it.....

I think I read the Florida Seafood Grill was being run by Truluck's, which is based in Austin if that makes you feel better. I could be way off base though.

yes, the Truluck's Restaurant Group is run out of Austin and they are responsible for Florida Seafood Grill (formerly Floridita). There is one in Houston that's been open about a year, and a third one in Plano.

It's a lower price point than Truluck's and has a Caribbean/S Florida taste and feel

I guess the fajitas are good. That's what I always eat when I eat at work. I doubt I'm the one to ask just because I'm not much of a restaurant connosiuer (sp). Personally, when it comes to Mexican, Italian or otherwise, I prefer the out-of-the-way "mom and pop" type places. For example, here in Knoxville, my friends and I generally go to a place called El Churro's which is completely run and operated by Mexicans. At times, it's even hard to understand the waiter/waitress. However, I'll cede the lack of communication for a more authentic meal.
Regardless, if any of you guys happen to stop by the first two weeks of May when it opens, come say "hi." The closest I've gotten to meet most of y'all was at the North Carolina game last Fall.
