Could Johnny 5 be elected President of the US

I know he isn't old enough yet (assuming he was built the year the movie came out), but he is an American citizen and I don't think there's anything in the Constitution about robots

I think the scenes that included the angry robots trying to disassemble Johnny 5 would be misconstrued and make people think that he is a monster bent on destroying everything in the world.

I think legally he could make it, but practically he is unelectable.

He may have been assembled in America, but I'm guessing a lot of his parts came from Japan, China, Mexico, etc.

So he may not qualify.

Personally, I don't think it [Johnny 5] had much foreign relations experience. I mean if it were to have gone to Iraq and serve as an IED detector/detonator, I'd vote for it. Oh, and it would have to run on the Democratic ticket.

Now if it were to run for Pope, I'd definitely support it.

How do you know he isn't over there right now and the government won't tell us about it?

And who cares about experience? He's a robot who likes the Three Stooges; he'd get my vote.

Because it would want the public to know of its work in Iraq. Anyway, J5 doesn't have what it takes. You need Pimpbot 5000! Now there is an electable robot! Bill Clinton could be its VP.

I'm also not sure Johnny 5 has what it takes to take on the terrorists.

He replaced his laser with a freakin toolbox.

He's too much of a Dove.

ok, so we've decided that he probably wouldn't be elected. but is there any legal reason that he couldn't be elected?

Can't be elected. End of Short Circuit 2 showed him getting his citizenship. That means he was not a Natural Born Citizen, no presidency for Johnny 5, and no inagural ball gig for El DeBarge

Article II Section 1 Clause 5: Qualifications for office
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

so a baby grown in a test tube somewhere can't become president? what about someone whose mom had a c-section?

The definition of "person" can be highly debated, and has been for ages. You could argue that some characteristics used to define a 'person' include personal identity, self-awareness, individuality, and a sense of self that persists through time, which Johnny would qualify for.

Basically, it would have to go to the Supreme Court to define if he is, indeed, a 'person', which would set an important precedent for robots in the future.

the bigger question is whether or not johnny 5 would be allowed to marry another robot, or if the government would simply allow him to only enter a marriage contract with a member of the opposite sex. opens up a whole can of worms there

I guess this has to come out. I saw him making out with c3po a few years back. May have been Bill Gates, but I don't know.

So you brought this thread back from the dead to post a picture that had already been posted?
