Costa Rica..

Going the entire week of Thanksgiving (2 weekends, week in between).

The trip is essentially 5 guys looking to party on the weekends, get out of the city and do outdoors stuff during the week. Basic questions are as follows:

For the weekends, what part of San Jose should we stay in to be near the good bars?

During the week, are there any particular expeditions/resorts people recommend? Atlantic Coast, Pacific Coast, etc.?

Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks.

A good friend of mine and his wife and kid are moving to Costa Rica. He is from there and has family there, of course. They have a ranch and some land so he is going back to take care of the family holdings. I will be taking trips down there to visit and to use his place as a base to travel out of. I am very excited because the things that P/C says is what I have heard as well. They also have some casinos there so I can lose at poker in another country.

I have traveled extensively in the east and south of C.R., and stayed in San Jose several times. In the San Jose area, I have spent nights in Belen, Escazu, Heredia, and downtown. I enjoyed each place.

Not sure what the best area for bars is, as I didn't go to any. I think P/C was a little hard on San Jose, but everyone is entitled to his own opinion. C.R. is a nice, friendly country, with tons of outdoors things to do.

If I went to Costa Rica, I would head straight for the East coast. Hole up in a surf town and surf all day, nap, hit local bars, hit on surfer chicks, pass out.

REPEAT

Suerte chicos, pero alli pienso que los ticos dicen "Pura Vida". Van con buenas undas. Chau

I do a lot of work down there and most Ticos who have traveled outside of CR will agree; SJ is one of the ugliest cities in Central America.
Don't lie, you know you spend two days at the Hotel Del Rey and then head out to the Beatle Bar in Jaco.
Just kidding.. too easy to pass up.

Just got back from a weekend in Costa Rica. This time we went to the Arenal Volcano area. It was awesome! From our hotel room we could watch love shoot out of the volcano and boulders come barreling down the side of the volcano. It was pretty active when we went there. Our lodge was actually only 1.5 miles from the volcano itself. We got in some rafting, hiking, and wind surfing while we were down there. Definitely memorable. PM me if you have any questions.
