Cost to Demolish Home?

I am trying to compare the price of lots in the Dallas area, some with homes already on the property and some without. To be able to get a better apples-to-apples comparison, I need to know approximately how much it would cost to demolish a home. For the purposes of this discussion, let's assume that the home is 1 story and approximately 2500 square feet.

Any experts out there?

Neighbors just did it on a bigger house built in the 50s. Got the whole thing carted off for under $5,000 I think. I was pretty shocked, but they took a long time and resold a lot of the stuff.

I was recently told $25k. That seems really high to me. I've watched houses go down and get hauled off in 2 work days.

I'm guessing under 10k. The house next to my dad came down for 5k in three days, but it was not a slab. I'd make a few calls out of the yellow pages. Demo is really pretty cheap compared to building.

if it's in Austin or San Antonio, I'm pretty sure you'll have to have an asbestos containing material (ACM or ACBM) assessment survey and perhaps an lead-in-paint survey if the home is old

b/ cities passed these worker realted ordinaces i nthe las few years

Your demo contractor should be able to include the asbestos report and any mitigation required in the costs as discussed above.
