Corrugated Tin as Siding

On a few of my recent forays into my old hometown of Austin, I've noticed the use of corrugated (some galvanized, some not) tin/steel as a siding for not only commercial use, but residential, too. When trimmed with cedar, I like the look.

Anyone here have any experience and/or advice in this area? I'm thinking of using both cedar and the corrugated tin look on my house & privacy fencing and wanted to see what the Horn Depot experts thought...

Thanks in advance.

I like the look, too. Lake Flato started using it some time back with great success. I know they have won national acclaim for designs that utilized it. I bet you'll do well.

Torn...
look it up... it's a product called Galvalum(e)... basically galvanized aluminum... there is a builder here in Houston and in Dallas that is building tons of townhomes out of it... Urban Lofts I believe... you can get it in a few different colors I think.. or perhaps it is paintable.. can't recall...

Thanks for the lead. I'm looking at using the unpainted stuff trimmed by rough cedar and possibly a stone veneer.

I'm trying to Google some other architectural websites that might have some cool pictures like the Lake/Flato site. Wish I would have had a camera with me when I was in Austin cruising around....

I like it too, and may rebuild the privacy fence with it one day. I believe there are differences in thickness/quality/price that need to be investigated.

My house is cinder block with stucco exterior. It's a cool look and will last forever, but the thermal insulation value is NOT good. I'd like to add a layer of good insulation and cover with corrugated metal. How much might that cost? 1200 S.F,. in Austin.

We put galvalume on the ranch house roof. It's supposed to be structurally superior to regular tin roofing and more durable. That's what I was told by my contractor. Also will look better for longer.

How long is it supposed to last on a roof, and how long will it look good (two different things entirely-tin can get dull and rusty looking)? Any idea of the square foot cost of this stuff?
