Corey Joseph to play tonight.

no big 3 or pop and the Spurs still win, behind 20 something from Mills and Splitter.

Why stay and work on your shot when you can get paid handsomly to do the same thing as a 1st round pick with guaranteed money??? I seriously don't think Barnes was going to hone his skills better than the Spurs organization.

C.Joseph played well. I think he'll become a good nba player (everyday starter) in another 18, maybe 24 mos. Wish him the best & hope he makes millions

I'm sure he regrets not staying as he pulls up to the drive through teller in his Escalade and deposits that check. Poor guy, missing all those campus hijinks.

"Should have stayed one more year and worked on his shot and overall game. Not sure why these guys jump when they aren't even assured of being a 1st rounder much less a lottery pick."

WTF? Like someone said a few posts above, the kid picks up a few cool milllion and works on his shot in the Spurs organization. He would have been a fool to risk injury here instead of signing.

Would have been great for us fans for him to stay here longer, but not for him.

CJ was not a guaranteed 1st round pick and took a major risk. I think there were strong indications from the Spurs that they were interested and CJ took a major chance by declaring and it paid off. The guaranteed 1st round money (CJ will make between ~800K to ~900K per year for three years) is certainly worth it. If he would have slipped to the 2nd round or even out of the draft altogether (as it appears to be the case with JCB), then he would not have been guaranteed any money, would have had to fight and claw his way onto a roster, and would likely have been left for the NBA landfill of wasted talent or gone overseas and been forgotten about. Because the Spurs have invested in CJ by using a 1st round pick (and see the potential talent), he is treated differently and I believe the Spurs focus more on his development than a team drafting CJ in the 2nd round otherwise would have.

Joseph never should have been drafted. He is not an NBA quality player and I doubt he ever will be. However, as an individual he made the right choice because he cashed in before teams realized his limitations. It's not his fault the Spurs chose to pay him.

Happy for CJ and hope that he will develop into a serviceable reserve in the league, but I have to admit that the Spurs drafting him in the first round was a real head scratcher.
