Coop's out

He seemed to have lost the clubhouse by May or June. That's remarkably early for a veteran team.

I hate going through this ritual every other year, but it had become clear that Cooper wasn't going to be able to make it work in Houston.

lost the clubhouse, doesn't make sound strategic moves during the game, apparently did not buy into the need to play the AA/AAA players who were brought up for a look - stuck with Tejada at short when Manzilla needs games to see what (if anything) he has to offer.

what has Ed Wade done that's been so horrible?

the Matsui deal was a bit questionable when it happened...and it certainly hasn't gone well as of late. his "reach" signings for starting pitching haven't worked out (Chacon, Hampton & Ortiz), but they were what the were -- FA starting pitching ain't cheap.

to me, the Bourn/Lidge trade is looking pretty good for us. the Tejada trade? I guess if Patton comes back strong, it could look bad.

while Wade hasn't been a genius with FA signings or trades, it's not like he's had a lot of $$$ or chips to trade with. conversely, it seems that his draft classes are performing very well at this point. several young arms are looking very promising. the Castro pick looked questionable at first and now looks great.

don't really see why he should be next to go. Astros need to restock the farm more than anything else. IMO, Wade's done a pretty solid job with that.
