Cooking raw tortillas....

Ok, what is the secret that I am missing?

I bought some HEB raw flour tortillas the other day. I have a cast iron comal (griddle) that I put them on. The directions say to cook on med. heat and flip them when they start to bubble.

I did that and they taste great but they are as stiff as cardboard. How do I make them such that they are soft too?
