Converting Slides 16mm to DVD

Have any of you used any of the services online or in person that do these transfers? Recommendations?

In cleaning out some of my dad's stuff we found some home videos from the 50's of building their greenhouse and family events as well as tons of slides from 50+ years of marriage and his Harley trip from Illinois to Texas and back.

The videos still appear to be in good shape and don't have the "vinegar" smell that signals they are going bad. Slides are also good. There is one service that will transfer whatever fits in a shipping box for $200. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks to the collective wisdom!

There is a company in Austin on West 6th, I think, that converts video and film to dvd. The are very reasonable on price. Check the internet for their name and address and give them a call. I bet they can solve your problem.

I was asking if someone had used any company that did this. The 16mm films I have are over 50 years old, with footage of my grandparents and great grandparents. Same with the slides. For obvious reasons, I am hesitant to just pop them in the mail!

In Austin I find Shade Tree Media (no address that I can find on the website) and Precision Camera on Lamar. Are either of these the ones you were talking about? Just wanted to hear from someone who actually had this done.

I can't speak to film to digital transfer but I have done business with Precision Camera off and on for nearly 20 years and they are real pros.

I have used Access Video on Lamar and 2222. They used to be located at Lamar and MLK.

I haven't used the services you are looking for, but they have converted camcorder video cassettes to DVDs for me and always do a fine job.

Thanks RayDog and YoDaLu. I will give each a call and see what they can tell me. Nice to know when people have had good service with a business.
