Continental Airlines / Reservation Question

I need to change a reservation from my name to my wife's name. I haven't yet called Continental, but I'm assuming they'll me that the reservation is non-transferrable, and I'm pretty much f'd. Anyone ever had any luck doing this? I'm not averse to calling Houston and begging someone at corporate to help with this.

Thanks in advance.

If you got the cheapest rate available, yeah you're pretty much screwed since it's in the fine print.

You may get lucky if you do it within like 24 hours or something, since sometimes airlines give you a very short grace period if you claim you made a mistake with the booking, but I'm not sure if Continental does.

Is it an international or domestic ticket?

If it's within 24 hours, your ticket is refundable. You could cancel it, and rebook it under her name. If its outside 24 hours since you purchased the ticket, and your ticket is non-refundable, you will have to pay a $150 change fee PLUS the fare difference if there is one.

Is the inside 24 hours thing law for all airlines to comply with? I thought I read that once, and I got into a huge argument with US Airways over the phone about it. Of course it was someone in India, and I said that this was US law I'm pretty sure, and of course the guy from India says "well this is an international company."

What's worse is I booked it for a friend and paid for it, and now she was the only one who could use it, I couldn't pay the change fee and use it...

Here are the policies for most of the major airlines and internet travel sites regarding nonrefundable tickets.

- American Airlines: No free cancellations. Hold policy until midnight of the next day.
- Continental Airlines: 24-hour cancellation policy. 24-hour hold policy.
- Delta Airlines: Cancellation until midnight the next day. No hold policy.
- JetBue: No free cancellations. No hold policy.
- Southwest Airlines: 24 hour cancellation policy. 24-hour hold policy.
- United Airlines: 24 hour cancellation policy. No hold policy.
- U.S. Airways: No free cancellations. 24-hour hold policy.

- Expedia: 24-hour cancellation policy
- Orbitz: 24-hour cancellation policy
- Travelocity: 24-hour cancellation policy, they keep their booking fee.

I have successfully cancelled and re-booked a ticket for a different weekend by calling the corporate office. Just ask them if they really want to lose your business forever over an honest mistake. If that doesn't work, bring up their stock price, etc.
