Surprise, surprise
That's funny, I read an interview with Contador long before Armstrong came out of retirement in which he indicated that he idolized Armstrong. Considering the recent tensions, I'm not too surprised to see him going the other way with these comments. It's setting up to be a genuinely bitter feud next year. I get the feeling that Contador will try to bury Armstrong next July. Not just beat him, but humiliate him.
I also have to say that I think Lance could have handled this whole situation much better than he did. I believed that Lance would have reached out to Alberto and made an attempt to both mentor him in the finer aspects of becoming a smarter, even more dominant champion, and to show the kid some respect in their interaction within the team. I guess that Contador feels that Lance did not do enough of this kind of thing off the bike, although he cannot deny that Lance was a model teammate on the road.
Oh well, what's done is done, and I think we have a pretty nasty, old school style cycling rivalry being born. If you thought Lance vs Alberto was compelling this year, just wait until next July. My man better work his *** off if he wants to dethrone that kid and also compete with the like of Andy Schleck.
