Considering Satellite vs. TimeWarner (Austin)

Hello. I currently use TimeWarner-Austin for Cable and Internet (and Vonage for phone). I am looking to reduce costs and improve service. I would switch to U-Verse, but its not available at my home. For those of you with DirecTV/DISH, what do you use for economical but solid, reliable high speed Internet??? I do love RoadRunner over ATT DSL…

I had Charter for digital Tv/ Internet. I switched to Directv and have never been more happier watching tv. I kept charter for the internet but talked them down to a lower rate by threatening to cancel completely. it worked that time. still pay around $30/month for high speed internet though, not too bad.

I have directtv and ATT DSL. Swithced from Charter Cable about 2 yrs ago.

ATT has had much better reliability than Charter Cable did. And Direct has better programing than Charter had.

So far I've had crappy luck with AT&T DSL in Austin, so your reliability will vary. In Los Angeles, I had Road Runner for broadband and it was pretty solid although more expensive than cheap DSL.

If it wasn't for the free TW cable that I'm getting, I'd call them up and switch to Road Runner. Oops, did I just say that?

As for satellite, DirecTV is great. I've been with them for almost a decade and don't plan on switching anytime soon. Now that they're going back to Tivo for their DVRs, I'm pretty excited/hopeful to see a new HD Tivo for DirecTV in 2009.

I have DirecTV and Roadrunner, love both...don't go for internet over satellite unless you live in a rural area, it sucks....

I've had DirecTV for almost 10 years (TV, not broadband) and love it. I do lose signal when it rains a frog choker or if a very intense thunderstorm is to the SSW of me. It's maddening when that happens but I still would rather have those issues than deal with a cable company.

BTHO TT (and everyone else!)
