Connor a first round pick?

The Link

I think 16 overall is a little bit on the crazy side, but it's amazing to think how far Connor has come along in 4 years. He's certainly got alot of the skills NBA teams look for in finesse bigs. I wonder if he's got the range to shoot NBA 3s. I think based on what we saw last year I'd say no, but I wouldn't be shocked to see it considering his work ethic. He's also developed himself into a very good weakside defender and adequate rebounder.

I'm excited to see him play this year and expect a great senior year from Connor that hopefully ends with him being selected in the first round next year!

Oklahoma City picking 26th? I'm assuming it's from a trade since there is a * next to the pick.

As far as Connor. I really can't see him being a first round pick....But his progress last year was very good (though he dropped off as the season went along if I recall). That being said....If Connor is drafted at all I think that would be an amazing achievement considering the way he looked his redshirt freshman year. However Rick always seemed to indicate that Connor was brought into the program more for what he could become rather than what he was.

I think we should restart the A.J./NBA draft thread and see who plays nice and who doesn't.

If you take the best parts of Brian Boddicker's game and Jason Klotz's game, and then meld them into a superhuman capable of anything, then Connor Atchley could be drafted 16th.

My guess is that he's lucky to be picked up in the 2nd round by someone who needs a tall guy for 3rd string "foul pickup" minutes. He has the height thing going for him, but the only time we can see power from him is on easy pick and rolls. He's a great college role player, but that same role is really limited in the NBA.

James going top 7 is interesting and cool. I always thought he was pretty overlooked by last year's scouts. I'm glad he was though.

Damion could have a monster year. he really helped his draft status by staying for another year.

On a related note, how sweet is it to see Connor's name above Tyler Hansbrough

Blocking shots isn't about power. It's about footwork and wingspan. If Connor had to body up on guys who were 6'9" 250 every game, I have few doubts as to who would win that battle.

But again, I respect his college role and how great he's been for us.

Is Conner really 6'10"? After watching him lineup against Joey Dorsey and seeing that Dorsey was only 6'6" , its highly doubtful that Conner is 6'10".

When I first saw Atchley on campus, I never would have said he gets drafted. However, he has progressed very nicely and will be drafted. More than likely, it will be the 2nd round, but he will get drafted.

I agree, this guy has come so far it isnt even funny. Compared to some of the guys in the league now, he will get drafted, and he will play.

as of right now, the word is that various members of the nba brass are vastly underwhelmed by the prospects in next year's draft.

I've never seen Atchley listed as a potential pick and I've never seen James listed so high. that said, it seems wide open at this point. I think that if both guys show some improvement, they could potentially make it in the league.

while Atchley seems like a surprise, I never thought a guy like Matt Bonner would stick in the NBA. at 6'10...a natural shot blocker and the ability to shoot from the outside, I'd say that will at least get him a look.

I'd love to see Connor improve from the FT line. I always feel like he's a much better shooter than his %'s reflect.

James is my favorite player, but I can't see him making it in the nba. What position does he play? Bet he measures at 6'5" at most. I hope I am wrong.
