USA 2, Japan 1 -- Gold Final Match
However, I like to see players that can pass the lights out and control the ball and not risk constantly giving it back when up 1-goal with the clock running down.
Can some expert on the game comment on that last 10 minutes of the game, plus the 2:02 overage time, why the US did not play keep-away more than they did? Is it better to keep attacking even under those circumstances?
Even on a corner kick in the final minute the US went for it instead of kicking it out to a player to control the ball. They simply had to not let Japan get any kind of touch on the ball. Was a player or two on the US team determined to score, to get a skin on the wall? Or is it 'best defense' is more offense? Maybe Japan had subbed out all their best defenders, but that meant they had strikers on the field and even more risk if the US kept letting them get to the ball.
