Congratulations Trey Hardee on Silver

Gold would have been nice, but a great effort overall, especially given his prior Olympics experience. As best I can tell, Ashton Eaton did not break the mark to be the highest scorer ever.

Congrats to both. This event is tough, and being a prior champion and getting Silver is noteworthy. To say it another way, finished in second place behind Ashton is nothing to be disappointed about.

Let me add this... I've seen way too many competitors... I won't describe exactly but if you'v watched the games, you'll know... too many crying over not winning. And while the disappointment is understood, at this level it's about some other attributes about sports. One should be proud to even BE at the Games. Some of the crying is just ridiculous.

How about,.. is it Rupp?... the American 10K runner who more than gratefully finished second. And Leo from Marble Falls who felt as if he's actually won.

Longhorns, Austinites, Central Texas... continues to be well-represented in the Games.

Here, Here !!!!

Unrelated but sorta related... instead of starting a new thread...

I rate Bolt as the top athlete of the Games so far.
I rate the American team overall as the surprise story of the Games.
A close second is the women's gymnastics team and both Gabby and Aly as coming out of nowhere for their accomplishments.
I do not rate Phelps as that big of a deal. It is what it is, but it's overblown for what it is (IMHO).
I am glad unsung heros are showing up -- example are the bench players in soccer.
Glad someone besides Wambach scored the two winning goals today, and that other sub made her presence as a scorer in win over Canada.
I'm happy for those coming out of nowhere -- like Nathan winning the 100 meter free.
Happy for so many American individuals and teams that just flat got'er done!
Leo in the 1500...man!! Rupp in the 10K (got that name right I hope)
And on and on... many heros, and many good stories.

AND happy for Hope Solo that she did shut-down play today as a goalkeeper while Chastain got to watch from the broadcast booth and could only compliment the stellar play after the big win. Ha!!

And I liked every single thing the 4 ladies soccer players said in their time with Bob Costas at the end tonight's NBC main prime show. Class all the way.

This is the best I have ever felt about any American Olympics squad top to bottom, every corner of it. Those who have come out a bit sour or off the mark deserved it; those who came out really well have showed they flat out earned it.

Looks like the law of karma is more precise than ever in these games.

ALSO.... I wondered why in the world London would want to host an Olympics, but I feel this has been a great venue for an Olympics, and from tv coverage cannot see any hiccups with it. Every venue out and around the city seems incredible for the events. The rowing area, just out of sight. Wimbledon for tennis? Are you kidding!! And Wembely Stadium for soccer!!! The list goes on.

Congrats to Trey.

Saw that University of Texas with nine medals from its athletes would be ahead of 56 nations in the medal table (and a lot more than that who dont have medals at all). Destinee goes for her gold tomorrow and Sanya has a shot at another gold tomorrow in the 4X400 relay so double digits in medals is possible.

I'll post our final ranking when it's over - we're around 16thin the world right now. And with medals in Volleyball, Sonya, and Basketball, it will be double digits.

I've always felt that this type of success is what makes UT different, and I'm always a little sad for the students and fans of other school who just don't get it - who don't recognize how much this is a part of the fabric of being a Longhorn.
