South Carolina took it to Florida and won by pitching well, playing excellent defense, putting runners on base and then plating them with timely hits. They deserve it and congratulations! They have the distinction of being the last team to win at the 'Blatt and the first to win at TD Ameritrade. 11 wins in a row at the CWS - a new record. Well, fellow Horn fans, let's look forward to 2012.

Interesting alliance with Texas in the record books.

Texas won the first title at the other field.
SC wins the last one there, and then the first one at the new house. That's a coup if there ever was one. An absolute rarity in sports to do that.

Texas held the old record of 15 straight CWS wins, tied by SC going into last night's winning game.

By winning that game, SC now has the record of 16 straight wins.

And SC is a school whose football coach used to coach at Florida.. the team SC beat this year for the title... the same school that just hired a new football coach that... just left Texas.

Go figure.

Congrats to the Gamecocks!! I think they played the kind of game the Longhorns aim to play, but this year SC had the seasoned players capable of pulling it off. The first game of the championship series had two defensive plays at home plate that defined the college game. And they capitalized on errors in fine fashion.
