computer stuff

I have lots, I do mean lots, of old computer stuff. From old desk tops, to the old monitors, printers, and lots of cables. It would probably be the right thing to do for me to destroy the hard drives - not that I have anything secret or revealing on them.
Question is any suggestions on how to get rid of this stuff, without paying someone to take it that is? Printers are in various stages, some work fine, some might crinkle paper, but pretty much everything works, just old. Even have one of the first 'portable' versions with floppy drive, cpu, keyboard, and printer in a big black travel bag.
Thanks,

I take all of my old electronics to GOODWILL. They recycle/resell what they can and properly dispose of what they can't. It's a great service to the public...and the environment.

Thanks,
Donate lots of stuff to those guys but never thought about the computer gear. Don't know if Houston has that sophisticated a department but imagine that they would take the donation nonetheless.

Check with your local library or community outreach programs in areas with more poverty or hard luck. I know that in Austin there is a program that takes these items and puts systems together for people that don't have one.

They teach them how to type, run programs and do things like surf the net. They get them up to speed on how to use one, how to make resumes and apply for jobs. Having typing ability and computer skills qualifies them for jobs that before were well out of their reach.

Hopefully Houston has programs like this and I assume they do. Tough part is finding them. Your old gear is new to somebody else.
