Yes, they're plugged in.

I was running Windows me, but I got rid of it, reformatted my harddrive, and installed windows XP, wich is running great. The speakers stopped working when I had ME, I was hoping that the switch would fix them, but no luck. The physical speakers themselves are fine, they turn on, and you can get some freedback from them if you bring a phone or somethign close to them, but it's like they aren't talking to the computer. Any ideas?

No expert here, but when it happened to me, I had to download and install a new driver for my sound card. I was able to get the name of the proper driver from the maufacturer web site.

make sure it isn't your sound card.

Get some headphones, and plug them into the jack the speakers are normally plugged into.

If you still can't hear anything, it ain't your speakers.

Yup - try the headphone thing, first. If you hear sound - you probably blew the woofer (if you have that setup)

- Replace the fuse, if it has one, or the woofer.

You said that the speakers are plugged in, but are they plugged in to the correct port? Like many have said, it could be the soundcard. You need to determine if the problem is the soundcard, or if it is the speakers. Plug the speakers into something else, like an MP3 player or another computer. That will tell you if there's anything wrong with them. XP may or may not be able to detect your soundcard and load the proper drivers for it. Check your Device Manager to see if you have any unknown devices.

Did you buy them at a gas station from a guy driving a white van?
