Computer Question - what is wrong???

I've had this problem for a while now, but I've just dealt with it. It's getting real old now, and none of my attempts to fix it work.

I use Mozilla Firefox. Certain things just don't work, like live streams on sportsradio1300.com, or other streaming videos like on mlb.com. Another site that doesn't work is that one where you can watch music videos. None of them work in IE either. Mozilla will say I don't have a plugin. IE will shutdown and the details of the error says something about wininet.dll. I downloaded that and put it in my System folder...nothing.

I've run all kinds of spyware programs. I've used Norton. I've done trojan scans. One spyware keeps coming back. It's an IE hijacker. When I open AIM, 3 IE popups will come up at some stupid search site. I've deleted it off my computer multiple times, and had programs delete them too. Keeps coming back.

Whatever the problem is, it doesn't let me use antivirus online scan either. Both Mozilla and IE refuse to let the scan load correctly.

A few months ago I had to install a java plugin. I ran Norton the other day and found out it was infected with something. Got rid of it. But I've been having these streaming problems since before I deleted that java program.

That's about all the details I can think of at the moment. Does anyone have ANY clues of what is wrong with my computer?

What operating system are you running? I am having many of the same problems on my WinXP system at home (stubborn adware in IE, although unrelated to AIM) and my Win2k machine at work (no live streams).

Regarding your adware situation, it's reasonable to assume that AIM itself is causing those popups. Plunk down the $25 for Trillian Pro - you won't regret it.

I'm also on WinXP. I'll check out Trillian again. I've had it before and it was a pain in the ***. Maybe it's changed since then.

I'm at school right now, but just read about CWShredder. That's what is on my computer...CoolWebSearch. Thanks so much. I'm gonna try this when I get home.

Thanks, Buff. CWShredder found 1 or 2 files. I then downloaded its SpySubtract. It found stuff that my other programs never found, more than 150 files.

Everything is running fine now.

Get rid of Aim; it causes some of this ****. AOL is for suckers. Do a google search and download, install and update CWS Shredder, Adaware, and Spybot S&D. Norton sucks. Get a good anti-virus....

One last question (yea right).

which version should I download?

It has the CWshredder and the other one says CWshredder (last Merijn version) and has the word "hot" next to it.

What is the difference between the two?

Try decreasing your security levels (or their equivalent in Firefox) to their minimum and see if that makes any difference...

Update: I downloaded Avast! Antivirus and it kicks ***. Ran it on boot and it found 41 files infected with the Win32 Trojan. I knew I had that little bastard, but nothing ever found it. And like I said on this thread, the online scan won't work. Maybe it will now....but I don't need it with Avast.
