Computer Problem

I have tried to install a Linksys USB wireless adapter for over a week. When the Installshield kicks in, it stops at 25% of the files being installed. It will do this from the CD and the download from the web.

Are you up-to-date on all your various and sundry XP patches? Also, make sure you are using the latest drivers for your MB.

Windows can just be a douche sometimes. I'm sure Nick has a rec for that. heh

Have you tried completely taking out the card, booting up without it in, then shutting down, reinstalling the card, and starting over? Someimtes that does the trick.

Also, what brand of computer do you have? It could just be an incompatibility between your comp (MB, generally) and the card. That card installed fine on a few systems I built with ASUS and Gigabyte mobos.

Oh, oops, I thought it was the Wireless G card, not the external. In that case, it could still be an incompatibility issue, or a USB issue.

Also, is there a reason you went with this over the card? The card takes a little bit longer to install, but runs solidly, and through the bus, rather than having to go through USB.

Oh, animations. Good times.

heh

Good work, Nick. Looks like it was a Linksys problem. Although I'm still going to blame Microsoft.

Thanks for the help. I actually had a friend give me the thing. Apparently it fell off a truck. I'll give it one more go.
