Much better, faster proc, LCD monitor, less money. Dell rips you off on ram, so I'd go to a local Fry's, or newegg.com, pick up 512 or so, and install it yourself. Ram's easy to do.

If it's just e-mail & Internet, what you're proposing is more than she'll ever need. Is she computer literate at all?

i agree that if this is just an internet/word processing/e-mail computer, you can get out for a lot less money... you could give her a 200mhz computer and she could do everything she wants.

I would definitely look into a celeron model or a duron (does AMD still make those?).
